Bio

Matthew grew up in Tucson, Arizona and graduated from University High School in 2002. He did his undergraduate studies at Rice University and graduated with a BS in Materials Science and Engineering in 2005. During the summers he spent his time working in the Materials and Processing Division of Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson; primary work was in failure analysis and pre-production composite work.

Research

Matthew is investigating the thermo-mechanical and microstructural behavior of Shape Memory Polymer Foams. Special focus is given to the performance envelope, multi-axial stress environments and the effect of microstructure on behavior. The goal of his research is the provide the fundamental understanding surrounding Shape Memory Polymer Foams to be able to commercialize the material. He utilizes CT scanning to connect microstructure behavior to mechanical properties.
